The club meets weekly at Shirley House on Psalter Lane near the junction with Cherry Tree road. Newcomers are welcome. The dictionary used is OSW International, which is an alphabetical list of allowed words. For English language play most countries, with the notable exception of the USA, use this list.
The club has a good age range of members and standard of play, with some members who play purely for the enjoyment and others who also play in tournaments (although one would hope the two are not mutually exclusive)! The tournament players have ABSP ratings, and former members have risen to the top 20 in the country, of about 1000 rated players.
There used to be a rated tournament each year, Sheffmatch, which attracted players from around the region and from further afield, and a nonrated handicap tournament. The club has also in the past held a club championship. The major tournament, the ABSP Summer Matchplay, is often held in the University of Sheffield's Sorby Hall, and club members usually enter or help with the tournament.
